Corn-Free Foods & Products List - Dec 2007

Please see new list at Corn-free List- Slightly Updated for a more updated list.

Corn-Free Foods & Products List – Current only at the time of posting (normally, but I got way behind so not all the additions submitted have been added, though I have tried to remove all unsafe products that were brought to my attention).

This is not a guarantee of corn-free, but foods that I in conjunction with others have investigated and tested. Since we all have different sensitivities, use this more as a guide and less as a bible. Some of these foods I haven’t tried and have relied on other’s experiences, as some of these products are either not available in my area or I must avoid them for other reasons.

Read labels every time you buy a product, and be cautious. If anyone has had problems with anything listed here, please do let us know. (Thanks to Violets for her work in helping to create this list.)

Some items on the list have reported corn in them (mostly medications). These have been left on the list, with the source of corn noted on the side. These are left on the list as they may be needed in an emergency, and an educated decision is best at these times.

Legend:
CC – Company confirms or claims product to be corn-free.
CC 10/06 – Date last confirmed with company.
? – Items thought to be corn-free. Successfully eaten by at least one person, but more confirmation is needed.
Untested – Company Confirmed corn-free, but no one has tested it to my knowledge.
Reported Reactions – Reactions have been reported, but may or may not be corn related. Use with caution.
KFP = Kosher For Passover
GFCF = Gluten-Free/Casein-Free
GF = Gluten-free (Gluten status is not always up-to-date on this list. Please check the gluten-free version of this list for more up-to-date gluten-free & corn-free products)

what an amazing resource! thank you for this

I am allergic to corn and found out the hard way that corn was in the compound of aspirin and alka seltzer. I now have hypertension and as part of my medication efforts I should be taking aspirin. I am going to investigate the listing for Nature’s Way White Willow Bark www.naturesway.com GF to see if I can take that product. This is truly a wonderful site. It took my husband and I over two hours to grocery shop when I was diagnosed 23 years ago with a severe corn allergy. Thanks for creating this resource.

I have bought products before from a company called Ozark Herbals. I recently found out I am allergic to corn, so I wrote to find out if their soaps, bath products, etc. were made with corn. They only have 1 or 2 soaps made with corn or corn derviatives. It is great stuff. Didn't know if anyone else would be interested. Thanks for all this info. It's helped a lot!

Note on Phytopharmica supplements - Recently bought the Tyler Foliplex with B12 from them that is listed as corn free on their ingredient list. these are chewable rasperry flavored tablets. Initially wary, but I've tried them now several times without reaction (note, I am not anaphylatic though. But no migraine or stomach problems for me from these).

I see an awful lot of Trader Joe's in the list. Wish I had it available to me

We JUST found out that our two and a half year old daughter is allergic to corn in addition to eggs, wheat, soy and peanuts. The corn by far has been the MOST overwhelming news seeing as it's in more things then we EVER imagined. THANK YOU for this site!!! It's so incredibly helpful and gives us a peace of mind when shopping. :O)

I wanted to add that I wrote to Nature's One and their formulas (dairy and soy) are corn-free for babies. Their probiotics and dha/ara supplements are also corn-free as well. Also, any Minute Maid juice with ascorbic acid WILL have corn as the source (again, I wrote to the company). Dr. Bronner's castille soaps that are mentioned on the blog are great! They also have a shea butter baby balm with out corn. Hope all this helps! This is a wonderful site!

I have an allergy to corn as well. I tried a generic version of Aleve and had an allergic reaction. Stay away from Aleve if you are allergic to corn.

Thanks for this list! I wanted to confirm Shearer's potato chips and Trader Joe's Hummus. Trader Joe's grass fed cheeses also appear to be corn free as we have safely used them for over a year without incident.

A funny: after not being allowed to have dips, I came with TJs hummus. I bought 2 varieties, a garlic and roasted tomato. we all sat down to pitas and hummus. My allergic child (age 4) claimed the roasted tomato variety and refused to share... under the circumstances, I allowed him to be a bit selfish.

Anonymous said...

I can also confirm the TJ's hummus. In addition to corn free, it is also soy and gluten free. I love the garlic lover's variety.

I don't know if anyone uses them, but NOW Foods has several supplements that are corn free. However, they've recently changed their formulations to vegetarian capsules. Some of them are still corn free, at least as long as they list corn in the "contains none" list at the bottom. However, if they list Vegetable Polysaccharide, that is derived from corn starch, though they claim no protein is left. However, they err on the side of caution and do not list it as containing no corn.

NOW brand has a very bad reputation for not being as corn-free as they claim. They may have changed this, but I wouldn't trust them very much when it comes to foods or vitamins.

I've not had any problems with their skin care products, such as shea butter or jojoba oil.. but I've heard some really bad stories about their products for ingestion.

I just found last week that im allergic to corn, but not yet sure how sensive i am to the tiny dirivitaves in corn so am staying away. My brother and i started going through foods: we have found that easy mac noodles(but not the cheese sauce mix)are corn free, and the cheeze its company said they are corn free as well, but we only asked about the regluar cheeze its not white cheedar or anything.

I saw that oils was a new section. I have been using Whole Foods 365 brand for over a year. As far as I know my boys haven't had any reactions.

I wanted to find out if anyone knows if Kettle chips are corn-free we have been eating the lightly salted ones.

Thank you for the source. I am quite concerned with the drug complication. I had surgery recently and was given pain meds, a general, and I had a terrible reaction, tho I told everyone that I was allergic to corn. I was unable to take anything for the pain and was weeks in recovery, much longer than I should have been. How do you protect against this? I swell and my blood pressure goes through the roof.

CF Burger – Half & Half, I had it this morning in my coffee and had a horrible reaction. There is nothing in the ingredients that would indicate a change, but I would proceed with caution with this one.

Great resource. Thanks.

You mention rum with a question-mark. Worth knowing that many rums, especially gold rums and dark rums, (and many other aged liquors) are aged in american whiskey barrels, which generally contain corn. I have not had a noticable reaction to Bacardi Superior (white) Rum, but am less sensitive than some. Jameson Special Reserve 12 Year Old Irish Whiskey is aged in port barrels apparently, and I don't seem to react to it either.

Thanks again!

Be a little careful with imported tapioca pearls. Had a very bad reaction to some tapioca imported, i think, from Thailand. Have not had a problem with name-brand tapioca pearls.

My 5 month old son was diagnosed with a severe corn allergy, as well as an allergy to dairy, at 4 months.

We LOVE your website but I would like to report reactions to some of the products you have listed. He has had problems with All Free & Clear, Pampers Swaddlers Diapers (Sensitive and Regular) & Baby Wipes (we are now using cloths). He also had a really bad reaction to the Aveeno Baby Lotion. As per the company, who was wonderful to work with, Seventh Generation Laundry Detergents do contain corn. However their non-Chlorine color-safe bleach & free and clear fabric softener and dryer sheets do not contain corn. My son can also fairly successfully wear their diapers. Their diapers are 100% corn-free. They even went to one of their chemists and diaper engineers to check it out for me! However, they were not sure the last time I talked to them if the tabs were completely corn-free. So, we use 7th Gen diapers while in the car, etc...and cloth while at home.

In addition my son has had problems with the following prodcuts even though you don't have them listed I just thought I would pass it along for other readers: Baby Oil, Playtex Bottle Liners (We now use glass born free's), Kleenex brand tissues, teething gels (If they don't have corn they contain Lactose!) & many other products that have corn "hiding" in them. Our son also tried Baby's Only Formula in Soy and Dairy (Before we knew he was allergic to Dairy) and though it is corn free, and the Soy is Dairy Free, it is made on equipment shared with Dairy/Milk and therefore still caused my son a strong allergic reaction. We are currently on Alimentum, however it causes my son allergic reactions as well due to the dairy content even though it is "broken down."

Fortunately we have a wonderful allergist at DC Children's who BELIEVES the problems that he sees with his own eyes our son has had on every "elemental" and "Free amino acid based" formulas. My son has just this past weekend successfully consumed Earth's Best Oatmeal. Their Tocopherols are made from Sunflower Seed Oil ~ per the company.

We have successfully used the liquid Dr. Bronner's baby soap, the Badger Balm in Lavender and Baby Balm in the pots and liquid. We have also successfully used the 7th Gen laundry liquid for his clothing even though it contains corn per the company if we use a double rinse. We have also successfully used the Original Palmolive. Also, for a diaper rash we have a prescription cream due to the severity of his rashes called Vusion. He has not had problems with it. We also seem to be able to use Balmex. We use TriDerma Baby Aloe Gel also. I think that may be all for now but I mainly wanted to report reactions.

Thanks again for your site!

My son has been diagnosed with corn allergies, and we are in the process of contacting food manufacturers. We do have the list of 175 corn derivatives and are attempting to be very thorough even to honey, sources, etc. We have already run across one company that was "shocked" that the citric acid in their product could even come from corn... My question is, as I verify products are you interested in that info?

hello friend this information is very very interesting!! where do you get this information about Corn-Free Foods & Products List - Dec 2007???? I would like to know if you have the list of DEC 2008???

A Mom said...

Von, did you receive the Corn-Free food list I sent? I'm not exactly sure how to do this. I believe I e-mailed it to you.

Hi! Great list. I thought I would mention that in the candy category, I've found that most Hershey products are corn free except for the "exotic" flavored kisses and products that involve caramels and flavorings. I have had no reaction to the dark or milk chocolate, krackle, and Mr. Goodbar.

As always, check the labels.

Darlene - Thats great that you do well with Hershey's but their chocolate is not corn-free. Its corn-lite, meaning that it still has trace amounts of corn. You'll want to watch things with Vanilla/Vanillin, Artificial flavors, PGPR.

Even these trace amounts of corn can cause problems for some people.

Per an e-mail from Nestle Baking company dated 10/14/2009, their Semi-Sweet, Milk Chocolate, Butterscotch, and Premier White Morsel Chips are all corn-free.

V said...

They've said that before only to have people with severely sensitive corn allergy have reactions.

Did they check the vanilla? the alcohol used to extract it..was that corn-free?

Most companies think corn-free means free of protein, which still can have trace amounts of protein and be considered corn-free. Most corn-alcohols and highly processed corn derivatives are considered corn-free, despite that they may cause an allergic person to react.

Please use extreme caution.

thanks so much for this resource. my son is 6 mons old and was diagnosed with a corn allergy among others. i am nursing him so i have had to adjust my diet and this site has helped me tremendously. as i have started to add solids into his diet it has been a challenge so i mainly make his baby food. however with that said earths best baby food and gerber juices use corn base for their ascorbic and citric acids, i called this morning (all were very friendly and forth right). im not sure if you have young children but more info on corn in baby products would be great, or if you know where i can find such information, please let me know. his allergy is manifested through severe eczema and with the elimination of corn from my diet and thus his he has shown a vast improvement. once again thanks for the info.

My son is allergic to corn, dairy, and grass. Do you have any snacks that dont contain either ??? By the way, the products that you already have listed will be very helpful ! Thank you !

V said...

For corn, dairy, and all grasses, you may have better luck looking at the gluten-free version of this list.

I do know that you should be able to make some treats at home using buckwheat flour, tapioca starch, or potato flour.

no more:

ROSE ART - corn,soy
DELSYN - corn
Quatruss Drops - corn

(all tested, bad reaction)

I have a question about Namaste mixes, if anyone can answer. The latest corn free list on this blog says "as of 6/10, namaste is no longer confirming xanthan gum is corn free". But on the Namaste website Nov. 2010 FAQs, they clearly state their xanthan gum is corn free. Does anyone have information that contradicts their website?

I cant thank you enough for this! My toddler has a corn allergy that we just found out about and I was so lost. I'm printing this out. Once again, ty. MUCH appreciated!!

BE AWARE, just wanted to let you know that there is no Tom's of Maine toothpaste guaranteed to be corn-free. We contacted them directly. The ones that contain "vegetable oils" may or may not contain corn, depending on the batch and plant they come from. This is information derived directly from calling them.

Also, on the issue of compounding pharmacies. You can likely find one at least somewhat close to where you live by calling a standard pharmacy and asking if they compound medicines. They will likely say no but they can REFER you to a nearby compounding pharmacy. By doing this, I found one locally.

Hope you guys are doin' OK living the corn-free life! I know it's not always easy! =p

First-Thanks for the time you put into this website! Second- does anyone know of a perscription pain med that does not contain corn....I am having major foot surgery and will need it. Thanks

Violets said...

You'll most likely need to have it compounded at a compounding pharmacy. I get tylenol there, and they can do ibuprofen, too. Your doctor will need to write the prescription to say no corn derivatives. (Your compounding pharmacist can help with that process)

Can you recommend any organic green teas gluten, corn and soy free?

I've always been able to eat Annie’s Homegrown Shells & White Cheddar until a few days ago. I officially reacted to it as of 2/15. I don't know if the company has changed something or if I'm just getting more sensitive, but sadly its off my safe list.

great site thanks for the tips!!!

I'm new to corn allergy issues. Thanks for this list!

I just wanted to share that Beanito chips are corn free. They are a great replacement for tortilla chips & taste great alone or with salsa!
