We're having a good and much needed discussion about sex, corn, and allergic reactions on our favorite forum, Delphi Avoiding Corn: "Condoms and STD Protection?" and we'd love to get as much user-tested information as possible.
Since most pills do contain corn, finding a good contraceptive can be difficult, plus trying to be safe by protecting yourself from diseases just adds to the fun of this allergy.
We firmly believe in living a full and happy corn-free life, and this is one area with a lot of pitfalls. (The last thing anyone needs during those intimate times is a life or death health episode. For some reason that tends to ruin the mood.)
We're also discussing kissing as the exchange of any bodily fluids can put you at risk of an allergic reaction if the other person eats your allergens.
So please, come join the discussion and share your experiences. (Registration is free)
Tis the season for love and sharing. Right? :)
(We'll be using any information shared to help improve our corn-free products list in this much needed area.)
Since we all have different sensitivities, this should be considered a guide rather than a guarantee of corn-free status. This list is always changing as manufacturers are constantly changing their formulas. If you do have a reaction to any of these products, do let us know.

Harmony Organic Milk - Canada
A poster on Delphi-forums just announced her research into Harmony Organic Milk (a product available in Canada)
The poster questioned the product thoroughly, "I asked if the vitamins were from corn or if the carrier was corn-based. I also asked about cornstarch in packaging and citric or lactic acid in cleaning the bottles. I explained that any ingredient that at any point came from corn, no matter how processed, would be a problem."
The company response: "There is no corn associated with the vitamins that are added. I would suggest you buy our milk in glass bottles to avoid any possible packaging influences."
It looks like the chocolate milk may be corn-free as well.

Cafe Cristina Coffee
This coffee has been on our list for a while. It was verified with the company as corn-free by one of the posters on our favorite forum several years ago, and I have lost the link to that information.
However, I did want to post about the company for anyone searching for corn-free coffee.
Corn-free coffee can be hard to find and knowing the right questions to ask about roasting, processing, and packaging can give you a headache.
Where's the corn in coffee among other articles about corn in coffee filters and whatnot, can quickly educate you on why having your morning coffee can be an exercise in frustration.
If you're looking for a good coffee that won't send you off itching (or worse), we highly recommend Cafe Christina. For more information and product reviews, please ask around the forum.

Giambri's Peppermint Candy Canes
A post on Delphi-forums detailing an inquiry into Giambri's Peppermint Candy Canes has company confirmation that these should be corn-free.
No corn starch, corn syrup, citric acid, ascorbic acid, etc.
The food dyes do have glycerin, but it is sourced from palm.
The peppermint is a pure essential oil.
Another poster also inquired into these, and found they are processed on the same lines as corn syrup based candies.
While no one has tested these yet. Orders have been placed for these, and will update if we hear of any problems.
PS. The post also mentions Pure Fun Candy Canes. Pure Fun uses a peppermint flavor which contains corn alcohol. So use caution with Pure Fun products.

Annie's Homegrown Bunny Grahams
In case you didn't notice, in the last updated list, we removed these crackers from it. Actually thats one of the things that prompted me to post an unfinished list.
Multiple reactions about these grahams have been reported, and it is still unsure where the culprit lies. However, I am certain due to these multiple reports that they are not purely corn-free in any variety.
A recent company statement though still claims these to be corn-free: "We are very sorry that your son has had an allergic reaction that appeared to be caused by our product. Please be assured that our manufacturing facilities follow a strict regimen for corn allergen prevention. There is no corn, corn derived, or any process making the chocolate bunny grahams with corn in this product. Thank you again for contacting us."
I am at this time unsure if its the yeasts, the natural flavors, vanilla or what it is that is causing the reactions. Looking at their site however, I noticed that most of the varieties now contain corn flour and I assume all the bunny grahams are run on the same lines.
I am posting this as a huge caution label for everyone. Please use extreme caution with these products.

Looza Juices
It has just come to my attention that Looza juices (a division of Pepsi - who knew?) are now using ascorbic acid in their regular juices.
Since a reaction prompted this news, and most ascorbic acid is from corn, I'll be removing these from the list unless they're reverified corn-free sometime in the future.
I also wanted to caution readers that the poster believes that Looza was putting the ascorbic acid into bottles with the old labels until they redid the packaging or ran out of the old packaging (however that works) so if you're drinking these juices and having problems.. this may be the culprit.
As always, use caution and read labels every time.
(Update: Supposedly the mango does not contain ascorbic or citric acid and should be corn-free, but at this time it is the only one.)

Gerber & Earth's Best use corn-based acids
"earths best baby food and gerber juices use corn base for their ascorbic and citric acids, i called this morning (all were very friendly and forth right)."
This was in the comments of one of our corn-free lists. The comment was left in January 2010 (yes I'm behind), but I wanted to add it as a post to make it easier for other mothers to find in the information.
As always, use caution with any products that list ascorbic or citric acid as these almost always are made from corn.

Corn-Free List - Updated slightly
This is an OUTDATED version of the list. Please go to the main page for an updated version. Thank you.
Corn-Free Foods & Products List – most of this list is still only as current as the old 2007 list, but I have updated a few products and removed some harmful ones. I'm working on catching up the list to current after neglecting it for a while. Please let me know if you react to anything on this list, or if you've foods to add. Thanks.

This is not a guarantee of corn-free, but foods that I in conjunction with others have investigated and tested. Since we all have different sensitivities, use this more as a guide and less as a bible. Some of these foods I haven’t tried and have relied on other’s experiences, as some of these products are either not available in my area or I must avoid them for other reasons.
Read labels every time you buy a product, and be cautious. If anyone has had problems with anything listed here, please do let us know. (Thanks to Violets for her work in helping to create this list.)
Some items on the list have reported corn in them (mostly medications). These have been left on the list, with the source of corn noted on the side. These are left on the list as they may be needed in an emergency, and an educated decision is best at these times.
Legend:
MC – Company/Manufacturer confirms or claims product to be corn-free.
MC 10/06 – Date last confirmed with company.
? – Items thought to be corn-free. Successfully eaten by at least one person, but more confirmation is needed.
Untested – Company Confirmed corn-free, but no one has tested it to my knowledge.
Reported Reactions – Reactions have been reported, but may or may not be corn related. Use with caution.

Corn-Free Turkey
Shopping for your Thanksgiving turkey this weekend?
Here's some of the latest information:
Butterball Fresh Turkey - not safe. corn starch is involved in the processing of the birds.
Foster Farms - multiple reported reactions with their bird products though should be safe by the company ingredient and processing reports from the company. I'm not sure what they're doing or how corn is in the birds, but your best bet is to find a different source of bird.
Kosher.com - birds processed using normal kosher processes: kosher salt and water. The packaging may or may not be 100% corn-free. If you resort to this method of obtaining a safe turkey (I understand some areas of the USA do not carry much selection), make sure to rinse the turkey thoroughly before cooking. Birds can be purchased through their website or through Amazon.
Henry's Marketplace (subsidiary of Whole Foods) - Turkey is processed/packaged with water only.
Empire Whole turkeys - still safe. http://www.empirekosher.com/
Trader Joe's Kosher Turkey - these birds should be completely safe. Even the packaging was checked for corntamination.
This is the info that I have so far, if you have more information please let us know.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks
Rumor has it that these snacks are not corn-free. So I wanted to post a caution here.
The Funky Monkey fruit snacks may look on paper (ie. ingredient list) to be corn-free, but a poster on Delphi Forums states that this product is packed using corn starch to keep it from sticking to the packaging.
If anyone has company verification, please use the comments here. Until then, use extreme caution with this product.
