Since we all have different sensitivities, this should be considered a guide rather than a guarantee of corn-free status. This list is always changing as manufacturers are constantly changing their formulas. If you do have a reaction to any of these products, do let us know.

Companies Just Don't Know Corn or Allergies
The following letter was written in response to questions on products by So Delicious. The letter itself shows just how little they know about corn allergies and allergies themselves.
"Thank you for your question! In regards to corn, our natural flavors come from botanicals and extracts from natural sources. They can be comprised of many or just a few compounds that are extracted from plants, fruits, and beans. We purchase our natural flavors from only a handful of companies with whom we have developed a trusting relationship. As a key component of our non-GMO project compliance we strive to identify and utilize ingredients that are not corn based."
YAY! Sounds good right?
"As you know, a corn allergy is the inability to fully digest the corn protein. Our natural flavors and flavors used in our products that contain ethanol can be derived from corn, as a carrier. However, neither will never contain corn protein. We do not have any products that contain corn protein."

WHA? No no no.. dear lord no! Corn allergy is a hypersensitivity disorder of immune system to corn resulting in mild to severe reactions which may result in death if untreated.
Secondly, they cannot guarantee it has no corn protein. There is no test to adequately state there is no corn protein. Such a test does not exist. Also, the proteins in corn have not been adequately tested for allergenicity so all the allergens haven't even been found in order to test for them.
"Although we do not have the protein in any of our products, our fans propelled our desire to deliver a better understanding to our ingredients and will soon have a list of products that contain no corn derivatives. With that said, we apply strict quality-control measures, which are noted as the most rigorous in the industry, in an effort to prevent contamination by undeclared food allergens. To assure our preventative measures are effective, we sample test our products for the presence of allergens down to 5 ppm using state-of-the-art testing methods. Our program is unique because we have documented and regimented procedures that are instituted at every facility where we produce So Delicious. They involve some of the most rigorous testing in the world and are conducted at various stages of our production – from testing the raw materials and ingredients to the manufacturing lines to the final product. We ensure that the product that is shipped into stores is safe and of the highest quality."

Hey they test down to 5ppm, unfortunately they don't do that test for corn because it doesn't EXIST! And even if it did exist, it wouldn't be that accurate.
"We believe that we are doing an outstanding job at ensuring safe and delicious products, but we wanted to get additional input from outside teams. So, several years ago, we invited FAAN, the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, to review our allergen and cross-contamination prevention program. They praised our program and today all of the facilities that we work with have instituted our strict regimen to ensure safe products. FAAN was so pleased with our work that we currently sample our products at more than 60 of their events each year!"

While FAAN does great things for people with the top 8 allergens, FAAN is just another 4 letter cuss word for many with corn allergies. FAAN's knowledge and support for corn allergies is essentially non-existent at best and dangerous at worst.
"For any of our consumers with allergens and sensitivities, we always suggest checking with your medical or allergist specialist before consuming any So Delicious products. I hope this information is helpful, puts your mind at ease, and encourages you to enjoy our So Delicious products!

Yes, it's clearly put my mind at ease to never recommend your products to anyone with a corn allergy because even if you do have a product that happens to be safe right now.. the amount of misinformation and stupidity in this letter makes me certain it won't be long before you mess it up.

Seeking Health - Kids Optimal Multivitamin
Seeking Health was questioned a couple times on whether their products were corn-free, and have stated that the product is corn-free. A recent email reply from them clearly defines what they consider "corn-free" so please use caution with their products.
"Vitamin C is synthesized using corn glucose as a starting material. The vitamin C is corn-free, i.e. free of corn allergen. B vitamins are chemically synthesized, except for riboflavin derived through a microbial fermentation process."
Here we consider things to contain corn if they are derived from corn as many people who are allergic to corn do react to the derivatives.
Some people have done well with a few of the Seeking Health products so total avoidance of their products may not be necessary for everyone, and this is one of the very few (if not the only) MTHFR based medications formulated for kids. As such, those with MTHFR affected children may find the benefits of this multivitamin outweigh the negative.
But being informed of the risks is important, and caution is necessary. If you know you or your child is too sensitive to tolerate any corn derivative, please refrain from trying this product.

Natural Factors B-12 methylcobalamin sublingual tablets
One of our Corn Allergy friends is currently taking Natural Factor's B-12 successfully. Again, as with all B-12, this won't be 100% corn-free due to the B-12 itself but if you need to take B-12 this might not be your worst option.
The inactive ingredients are: Lactose, cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate (vegetable grade)
The cellulose and the croscarmellose sodium are both supposed to be derived from pine. The stearate is from palm.

Doctor's Best B-12 & Folate
Several of our Corn Allergy MTHFR friends are looking into vitamin and mineral supplements for the treatment of MTHFR. The following are likely not to be 100% corn-free due to the way that B-12 itself is made. However these may be some good options for those looking for these supplements.
Doctor's Best - Best Fully Active B-12 (contains cellulose and modified cellulose from soft woods) (Amazon Link)
As of yet, these have not been human tested to see how corny they may be. If you do use these successfully, let us know.
Update:
Doctor's Best - Best Fully Active Folate (on 9/10/13 the product did contain just MTHF with rice flour as a filler and the capsule, and just a few days later, now contains ascorbic acid, likely from corn - AVOID.) (Amazon Link)

YS Honey - Multiple Reactions
YS Honey has looked promising for a while, but a recent uptick in reactions reported on our Facebook group has us concerned.
Please use caution with this honey... or better yet.. find a local supplier who you can trust to give you corn-free honey.

UNREAL Candies - Reactions
There's a post on UNREAL's facebook page in which Robyn O'Brien, the well-respected author of "The Unhealthy Truth", states that UNREAL is corn-free and safe for those with corn allergies.
Screenshot from UNREAL's FB Page |
As much as we like what she's doing with food and educating people about the dangers of the current food system, we do want to make sure that those with a corn allergy do not take her advice here.
UNREAL is corn-lite at best. It looks better than 99% of the candies out there which can be deceiving for people with a corn allergy. Their candy does still contain traces of corn, and is not safe enough for someone with a corn allergy.
Several people with corn allergies have tried their products and reacted. Please use caution with their products!

La Yapa Quinoa
You know you have a corn allergy when you see llama manure in a company's response and you get excited.
The following conversation was posted on our Facebook group as a Q&A with the owner of La Yapa quinoa:
"1.) Is your quinoa processed in a quinoa dedicated facility? Yes. It is a quinoa only facility located in Bolivia.
2.) How is the processing equipment cleaned? Just hot steam and pressurized water. No soap or bleach.
3.) Is you quinoa packaged in a quinoa dedicated facility? Quinoa and rice only in the packaging facility. Located in Sacramento, CA.
4.) What is used for pest control? Nothing is needed, because of the high altitude there are no bugs. Sometimes crops are lost due to rain but bugs are not an issue so they do not need pesticides.
5.) What is used for fertilizer? Llama manure."
This product is still being human tested. So it's unknown if it's safe in the packaging and shipping process. But it looks promising.

Canadian Corn-Free Foods List
We've expanded to Canada! We have a wonderful woman working on our Corn-Free List for Canadian products. You can see the list here: Canadian Corn-free List (this is a google doc, and you may have to be signed into Google to see it.)
Many products are different in ingredients between the USA and Canada, so a list for Canadians was getting more and more needed as corn allergies are seeming to become more prevalent.
We've also expanded our groups. There's a great group on Facebook for Corn Allergies & Intolerance in Canada which is moderated by the same woman who is working on our Corn-Free Canadian List.
If you're Canadian and avoiding corn, come join us on Facebook!
(If you're not a Facebook fan, you can also find our regular groups on Delphi - Avoiding Corn, Google+ Corn Allergies & Intolerance, and a similar group on Linkedin.)

Kiss My Face bar soap - reactions reported.
Due to multiple complaints of reactions to Kiss My Face pure olive oil soap, I'm posting a caution.
There are still some that are doing fine with this soap but there are increasing reports of reactions.
The latest reaction was due to accidental ingestion, so it's not only been skin reactions.
Please use caution with all Kiss My Face brand soaps, this was the only soap from them that was once considered safe.

Pure Encapsulations
I really wish all companies were this forthright and quickly reliable with their answers. So if you can do corn in your diet, look this company up.
Unfortunately, if you avoid corn, Pure Encapsulations may not be for you. I recently inquired about their B12-Folate product. Which is a great little B-12 product, especially for those with MTHFR gene mutation or for other reasons have trouble metabolizing Cobalamin or B-12 from foods.
Here's the response from the company on corn in this product:
"Dear Ms. Young,
Pure Encapsulations methylcobalamin is derived from corn dextrose fermentation. The ascorbyl palmitate is sourced from corn dextrose fermentation and palm oil. The hypo-allergenic plant fiber and vegetarian capsule are derived from pine cellulose.
Sincerely,
Pure Encapsulations, Inc.
490 Boston Post Road
Sudbury, MA 01776
800-753-2277"
As you can clearly see, this is not safe for those needing to avoid corn and likely will affect those allergic and intolerant alike.
As far as we're aware, there is not a 100% corn-free B-12 supplement out there. If we ever do fine one, we'll be sure to post.

Bare Escentuals Makeup
I tried this makeup years ago - not the corny base but the eyeshadows - and reacted to it. Much of their eye shadows contain a known irritant that in their defense is often used in makeup. It gives makeup that sparkly sheen. My reaction at the time was not a corn thing, but left me with ill feelings nonetheless.
Then today I saw a post on our Facebook group with a new company response from Bare Escentuals. This is their response to a question about the source or safety of the Vitamin E in their products.
"Thank you for contacting Bare Escentuals. I would be happy to assist you with our ingredients.
Unfortunately, that is proprietary information and we are unable to release it. If you have any concerns regarding certain ingredients we recommend contacting your physician.
We hope this is helpful, but please do not hesitate to contact us with any additional questions you may have via email or by phone at 1-888-795-4747 during our business hours Monday through Saturday 5 AM to 9 PM, Sunday 7 AM to 4 PM Pacific Time.
Customer satisfaction is Bare Escentuals' #1 priority; we appreciate you taking the time to contact us.
Warmest Regards,"

Well isn't that nice. "We'd love to help you, but we can't." And the "warmest regards" at the end might as well say "Screw you" for all the helpfulness and customer satisfaction that this letter gives.
If you do well with Bare Escentuals, feel free to continue to use them. However after this letter, I'd much rather use my money to vote for businesses and products that do actually care.

Bob's Red Mill Flours
I could have sworn that I'd posted about this on here already since everyone "in the know" has already been avoiding these like plague, but I couldn't find a post about it using the search.
Anyway, for years now, these have been on the No-No List. Technically they were still on the list, but with a major disclaimer of "Avoid!!!". Which is kinda silly to keep them on a recommended list, and then tell people not to eat it.
I know that I kept them on the list because they are a very popular "alternative" brand and due to that people would continually ask me to add them to the list, or recommend that people use them.
Well I'm officially going to take them off the list completely.
Their products are extremely hit and miss when it comes to corntamination. When Bob's Red Mill was contacted about this, albeit this was a few years ago though to my knowledge nothing has changed since reaction reports keep pouring in, they stated that most of their products are ground on the same machinery. This includes corn.
While they do everything they can to prevent cross-contamination, it's been our experience within all of our groups that their products still contain enough cornamination to cause reactions among the corn allergic.
Since this is cross-contamination, some batches may have more or less than others. So some people may never attribute reactions to the product, because they assume it is something else, or they may find that they do well for a while and then suddenly end up in the ER. We have had dozens if not hundreds of reported reactions about their products over the years.
Because of this, we really DO NOT recommend Bob's Red Mill products for anyone with a corn allergy.
So please use caution.

Corn-Free Foods & Products List - Feb 2013
This list is outdated.
There is a newer version of this list, please visit our main page and select the newest list from the sidebar. Thanks.
Corn-Free Foods & Products List – Current only at the time of posting (normally, but I am still playing a bit of catchup, this list is at least more current than the last one. Please double check ingredients every time).
This is not a guarantee of corn-free, but foods that I in conjunction with others (Delphi & Facebook groups) have investigated and tested. Since we all have different sensitivities, use this more as a guide and less as a bible. Some of these foods I haven’t tried and have relied on other’s experiences, as some of these products are either not available in my area or I must avoid them for other reasons.
Read labels every time you buy a product, and be cautious. If anyone has had problems with anything listed here, please do let us know. (Thanks to Violets for her work in helping to create this list.)
Some items on the list have reported corn in them (mostly medications). These have been left on the list, with the source of corn noted on the side. These are left on the list as they may be needed in an emergency, and an educated decision is best at these times.
Legend:
Added or Checked 12/12 - this is the date that it was added to the list or last checked for it's success among corn allergics. This is more for my information so I know which products should be reviewed and double checked for product changes.
MC – Company/Manufacturer confirms or claims product to be corn-free.
MC 10/06 – Date last confirmed with company.
? – Items thought to be corn-free. Successfully eaten by at least one person, but more confirmation is needed.
Untested – Company Confirmed corn-free, but no one has tested it to my knowledge.
Reported Reactions – Reactions have been reported, but may or may not be corn related. Use with caution.
