Doctor's Best B-12 & Folate

Several of our Corn Allergy MTHFR friends are looking into vitamin and mineral supplements for the treatment of MTHFR. The following are likely not to be 100% corn-free due to the way that B-12 itself is made. However these may be some good options for those looking for these supplements.

Doctor's Best - Best Fully Active B-12 (contains cellulose and modified cellulose from soft woods) (Amazon Link)

As of yet, these have not been human tested to see how corny they may be. If you do use these successfully, let us know.

Update:

Doctor's Best - Best Fully Active Folate
(on 9/10/13 the product did contain just MTHF with rice flour as a filler and the capsule, and just a few days later, now contains ascorbic acid, likely from corn - AVOID.) (Amazon Link)

Allergy Research Group - vitamins & supplements

If you're looking for a Zinc supplement, this one by Allergy Research Group should fit the bill. According to a company response posted on Delphi, this supplement should be corn-free. (Data from July 2011)

"Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose microcrystalline cellulose is from birch tree bark, silicon dioxide is from sand, magnesium stearate from palm see oil.
The zinc is derived from rock."

Here's some information on their other products and ingredients:
"Our calcium and magnesium citrate are free of rice and corn. The facility that the product is bottled in maybe not be free of rice and corn. If you have any other questions please give me sent me an email."

"Cross contamination of minute amounts of materials is a possibility if the facility processing other ingredients with corn or rice to them. The Vitamin B complex, zinc and l-glutamine do not have any corn in them. The ascorbic acid... maybe corn derived."

"Theoretically there is no corn in the ascorbic acid as the source is material is corn but the finished material is a semi synthetic. But we can not say that extremely sensitive people are not going to react."

If you do see ascorbic acid in the ingredients, these products will be corny and should be avoided. There is a chance for cross-contamination with other items, but may or may not be enough to cause problems.

Informed choices are best!

AlgaeCal Calcium/Magnesium Supplement

An inquiry in July 2007 posted on Delphi -Avoiding Corn confirmed that the product was corn-free.

Unfortunately AlgaeCal no longer is. At the time of the inquiry, the company was in the process of switching out its bovine gelatin capsules (Capsugel) to a capsule derived from corn.

Do be cautious as their site still claims "corn-free" status, despite this switch to corn-based capsules.

Kirkman Labs - reactions

Kirkman Labs is being removed from the list, as too many reports of reactions have been made for us to consider it safe.

Of the reaction testimonies are the following:

Please use extreme caution if using any of Kirkman Lab's products.

Enzymedica

Enzymedica's Pro-Bio probiotic has been on our list for a while now, but company confirmation posted on Delphi-Avoiding Corn, now expands our listing of Enzymedica products.

Cellulose used in the Pro-Bio vegetarian capsules is sourced from Pine. The Xylitol in their Kid's Digest is sourced from Birch.

Enzymedica does claim that all their products are corn-free, and so far no word to the contrary.
