Lakefront Brewery - Beer

According to a poster on Delphi - Avoiding Corn, Lakefront Brewery of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has confirmed that they do not use any corn or corn derivatives to make their beers.

The beers are also free of rice, with the exception of their New Grist beer for Celiacs.

Lakefront Brewery website

Plasencia Reserva Organica - Nesticos

A poster on Delphi-Avoiding Corn attempted to verify corn-free status with the company but did not quite get company confirmation for these small cigars.

She did however personally test out the Nesticos and did not react.

While many tobacco products do contain corn derivatives, it appears these may not.

The company did confirm that the Placencia Organica's are made completely organically with no chemical additives. The Nesticos are just one of the types of cigars made by this line. Placencia Reserva Organica Line

Georgia Pacific - Brawny & Sparkle

According to a relayed company confirmation posted on Delphi - Avoiding Corn, Brawny and Sparkle paper towels are processed the same way. Meaning they both should have the same corn-free status.

According to the post, they both are completely corn-free with exception of the glue on the first and last sheets of each roll.

Georgia-Pacific's Website

Zithromax

A poster on Delphi - Avoiding Corn verified with Pfizer that their Zithromax liquid suspension does contain corn.

The company did not specify which ingredient was corn-derived or if there was more than one, but merely stated that corn was found in the ingredients.

The poster's child did manage to tolerate the medication, but not everyone may be so lucky.

Trader Joe's Canned Chunk Turkey

Since I don't have a whole lot of information on this product, consider this more of an FYI.

A poster on Delphi - Avoiding Corn trialled Trader Joe's canned Chunk Turkey and reacted.

So do use caution.

Kroger Meats

A reaction to Kroger's fresh meat posted on Delphi - Avoiding Corn, started a long discussion of how Kroger's meats (& other stores as well) are processed.

Kroger grocery stores are dotted almost all over the United States.

According to one post on Delphi, Kroger meats are sprayed (with what is unsure) prior to packaging, and their fresh ground meat has "with natural flavor" on the packaging.

There have been multiple reports of reactions to Kroger fresh meats, and most are not marked any warnings. So do use caution.

365 sodas - revisited

A long time ago, we made a summary post of all the not-so-corn-free items we'd researched prior to starting this website/blog. Our sister site, News for Corn Avoiders, has more info on this research saga.

Whole Foods - 365 sodas - Corn allergy caution - which includes Whole Foods original stance on the corn-free status of the 365 sodas.
Whole Foods: Consumer Confidence Lost - which Whole Foods confirms the citric acid in 365 sodas is from corn.

Despite this research, we are still getting inquiries into the 365 Rootbeer, which does not contain the dreaded citric acid. Unfortunately, it does still contain corn in it somewhere.

Unfortunately for me, I missed this corn confirmation notice, and stupidly decided to trial the rootbeer myself. I can confirm, btw, that there is indeed corn in the 365 rootbeer soda.

The amount of corn in the 365 Rootbeer would be for many people minimal. So if you can tolerate small amounts of corn derivatives you may do fine with this soda; however, if you're extremely sensitive, I would find something else to drink.

Patanol

Alcon's prescription antihistamine eyedrops: Patanol (and probably Pataday as well) have not been confirmed corn-free, nor confirmed corn.

A discussion on Delphi - Avoiding Corn, concerning Patanol increases our suspicions that it contains corn.

It is unsure which ingredient(s) in the Patanol would be corn-derived, but the benzalkonium chloride may be the culprit.

Use extreme caution before using this product with a severely sensitive corn-allergic.

Alison's Family Farms

A member of Delphi - Avoiding Corn reported that the company has confirmed their chicken products to be corn-free.

There is nothing used in processing except water, however the chicken is fed corn.

Alison's Family Farms Website

Alison's Chicken has had a reported reaction, but it is uncertain if the reaction was to the chicken or corn-contamination. She did call the company and confirmed again that there is no corn used in the processing, only in the chicken-feed.

Problematic Eggs

Eggs have been touch and go problems with many corn-allergics, and the exact reason for it has not really been discovered.

Eggland's Best was reported as problematic, as well as Horizon Organic eggs.

The same persons that reported problems with those brands, can successfully eat other brands of eggs such as Born-Free Omega 3 eggs, and Publix Greenwise Organic Eggs.

So if you're having trouble with eggs, it may not be a true egg allergy and you may want to trial a few different brands of eggs. Depending on the severity of your symptoms of course.

Most corn-allergics that spoke on this topic preferred eggs from cage-free free-range hens.

Delphi - Avoiding Corn Testimony:
Eggland's Best vs Born-Free
Horizon Organic vs Publix Greenwise

Another post of reaction to Horizon Organic Eggs states that if you are reacting to Horizon Organic Eggs, the company would like to know.

Ginger People - Ginger Soother

According to a post on Delphi -Avoiding Corn, Ginger People confirmed that their Ginger Soother beverage was corn-free.

According to the post, the "natural flavors" ingredient covers the ginger solids in the bottom of the bottle, and is nothing but ginger sediment.

Ginger People - Ginger Soother website

RX Vitamins - Children's Multivitamins

These I believe were company confirmed corn-free according to a post on Delphi-Avoiding Corn.

Rx Vitamins Children's Multi-Vitamins are grape flavored and candy-like.

Their website gives more details as to the ingredients of this product, which has been used successfully by one family so far.

Do use caution with this product if your child has multiple allergies, as it contains: maple, honey, molasses, apple, banana, currant, cranberry, orange, papaya, peach, pineapple, raspberry, grape, strawberry, broccoli, garlic, onion, parsley.

Zum Bar - Goats Milk Soaps

Zum Bar soaps have been something I avoided since.. well since I first started my corn-free journey, as rumors of reactions from corn allergic persons kept it in my mind as something to avoid.

In April 2007, there was a long discussion on Delphi-Avoiding corn where the ingredients of Zum Bar soaps were called into question.

Of the "finds":
Zum Bar confirmed that they do not use citric acid in their soaps.
Their essential oils are cold-pressed and not solvent extracted.
The company confirms that they do not use corn or corn derivatives.
Their glycerin is derived from palm.
Their vitamin E contains wheat germ.

This product is most likely corn-free.. at least should be tolerated well by most corn allergics. However there are some who question the goats milk base and dyes.

This product should not be considered gluten-free.

BubbleShack Hawaii Soaps

A company confirmation inquiry summarized on Delphi- Avoiding Corn, confirms several of the BubbleShack Hawaii Soaps to be corn-free.

BubbleShack Hawaii makes several soaps and not all are corn-free, so do use caution when selecting a soap.

According to the post on Delphi, "all of their 'regular' bar soaps are corn-free, with the exception of the following: Seafoam, Pikake Lei, Tuberose, and Kaffir Lime scents." This was last confirmed back in March 2007, so you may want to double check before ordering.

The Juicy Pineapple and Coconut Soaps were tested successfully.

In an update 10/07: Bubbleshack Hawaii has reformulated their products and none are considered corn-free at this time.

JC Naturals Soaps

A member of Delphi Avoiding Corn pointed us in the direction of JC Naturals soaps.

JC Naturals soaps are gluten, casien, and corn-free. They also make other bath & household products as well.

Another member of the Avoiding Corn forum tested their soap out with good results.

The Corn and Gluten free list now has an improved look. The list has grown to a point that I am now organizing everything with sub-headings (IE, Canned Goods, Apple sauce, brand name) :) Hopefully this will make it easier to read.

Chebe

We've had Chebe mixes on the list for a while now, but no posts about their products or safety concerns.

Chebe mixes have been enjoyed by many and are corn-free. Their products are tapioca based, and gluten-free (grain-free). Some are dairy-free as well, but you will need to watch your labels.

However their frozen and pre-mixed products do contain citric acid and are not considered safe.

Allergygrocer.com carries their products, however Chebe mixes did not show up on my Corn-free search there as AllergyGrocer has them listed as potential cross-contamination.

I'm not currently aware of any corn-related reactions to Chebe mixes, so the cross-contamination factor has to be pretty low.
