BlueBonnet Vitamins & Suppliments

Inquiries into the Bluebonnet company and products as posted on Delphi Forums - Avoiding Corn, has made this company one of our favorites. Keep in mind that not all of their products are corn-free, but their willingness to give out accurate information for people with food allergies has us pretty impressed.

Capsules - made from pine/spruce
Vegetable Cellulose - made from pine/spruce
L-Glutamine - cassava
Calcium Magnesium - corn-free (check labels to make certain you have the right one)

Do be aware though at any of their products containing fructose, Vitamin C, powdered Vitamin D3, or vegetarian glucosamine will not be safe for a corn allergy. These ingredients are confirmed sourced from corn.

The BlueBonnet Calcium Magnesium 1:1 Ratio (pictured here) contains traces of rice. FYI.

Also, their multivitamins are not corn-free. "that all their vitamin C is derived from corn, the vitamin D3 from lanolin contains corn starch in the drying method from an oil to a powder, both of these ingredients are in all their multivitamins."

It's so good to deal with a company who gives you the straight forward truth about what is or isn't in their products. Even though many of their products may not be corn-free, it's nice to know they're honest and we can trust the replies we're given. Kudos BlueBonnet!

AlgaeCal Calcium/Magnesium Supplement

An inquiry in July 2007 posted on Delphi -Avoiding Corn confirmed that the product was corn-free.

Unfortunately AlgaeCal no longer is. At the time of the inquiry, the company was in the process of switching out its bovine gelatin capsules (Capsugel) to a capsule derived from corn.

Do be cautious as their site still claims "corn-free" status, despite this switch to corn-based capsules.

Ecological Formulas - AutismCoach.com

A company response posted on Delphi-Avoiding Corn verifies that the source of AustismCoach.com's Corn-Free Vitamin C is a combination of beets and tapioca.

There is still cellulose in it which the source of that hasn't been identified. If anyone does feel brave enough to trial this product, do let us know.

RX Vitamins - Children's Multivitamins

These I believe were company confirmed corn-free according to a post on Delphi-Avoiding Corn.

Rx Vitamins Children's Multi-Vitamins are grape flavored and candy-like.

Their website gives more details as to the ingredients of this product, which has been used successfully by one family so far.

Do use caution with this product if your child has multiple allergies, as it contains: maple, honey, molasses, apple, banana, currant, cranberry, orange, papaya, peach, pineapple, raspberry, grape, strawberry, broccoli, garlic, onion, parsley.

Kirkman Labs - reactions

Kirkman Labs is being removed from the list, as too many reports of reactions have been made for us to consider it safe.

Of the reaction testimonies are the following:
Delphi - Avoiding Corn: Reaction to Kirkmanlabs Everyday Multivitamin

Delphi - Avoiding Corn: Child's Reaction to Kirkmanlabs Children's Multivitamin

Please use extreme caution if using any of Kirkman Lab's products.

Enzymedica

Enzymedica's Pro-Bio probiotic has been on our list for a while now, but company confirmation posted on Delphi-Avoiding Corn, now expands our listing of Enzymedica products.

Cellulose used in the Pro-Bio vegetarian capsules is sourced from Pine. The Xylitol in their Kid's Digest is sourced from Birch.

Enzymedica does claim that all their products are corn-free, and so far no word to the contrary.

Kirkman Labs - cross-contamination

In January, we posted about Kirkman Labs' Vitamin D being derived from corn.

Another response from Kirkman Labs about corn in their vitamins was posted on Delphi Forums - Avoiding Corn.

This inquiry was questioning their Hypoallergenic Calcium with Vitamin D. Kirkman Labs states that this product does not contain any "corn protein fraction" but that it may be run on the same production line with corn starch containing products or with vitamin C derived from corn.

Do use caution with their products.

Vitamin Research Products

A newcomer to the Delphi Forums has investigated and is currently trying a couple products (Digestive Enzymes & Triphala) by Vitamin Research Products.

I briefly looked at Vitamin Research Products' website and noticed that some of their products state that they're corn-free.

This company looks promising. Do make sure to read labels.

This company will be showing up on next month's list, provided no allergic reactions are reported.

Kirkman Labs

Kirkman Labs is on the corn-free list and has been successfully used by several. However there have been reported reactions by severely sensitive persons. So use caution.

A statement from Kirkman Labs as posted on Delphi gives a few more details about their corn-free stance.

"Our vitamin D 3 is synthetically extracted from sheep lanolin by the use of solvents such as alcohol or acetone."

These solvents can be corn and most likely are corn-derived. The company goes on to say that all Vitamin D is made this way and theirs is the same as everyone elses. (So thus must be safe? Right?)

Kirkman Labs will stay on our list so far as the reactions have been very few, in light of the number of successes. If you do have any issues with their products, do let us know.
